Flamed tiles & old catalogs
Old floor tile catalogs are a fantastic source of inspiration! From the 1920s onwards, tile manufacturers abandoned illustrative patterns in favor of simpler textures. A particularly popular effect back then was the 'flammé': a cloudy combination of two shades, reminiscent of the way milk mixes with coffee.
We happen to have a lot of 'flammé' in stock at the moment:
- Cement tiles by Impermo (17 x 17 cm), salvaged from the former Molenberg childcare centre in Lanaken (1948).
- Ceramic tiles by Wassebillig/Welkenraedt (15 x 15 cm) - flamed, salvaged from the former Borgerstein building in Sint-Katelijne Waver (1933).
As you might guess, we keep a small collection of old tile catalogs here. Just ask at the front desk, and we'll be happy to let you leaf through them.
