Générale de Banque interiors, Ch. Gevers & J. Wabbes,
1972-1978

Following the decision to demolish the former headquarters of the ‘Générale de Banque’, BNP-Paribas-Fortis contacted Rotor to coordinate a salvage operation of the iconic corporate interiors by notorious designers Jules Wabbes and Christophe Gevers. Rotor’s mission included the inventory of salvageable materials, the organisation of their demount, the supervision of the necessary works as well the identification of new destinations for the materials or of projects they could be integrated in. Thousands of square meters of ceilings and floors, the entire cafeteria, a myriad of decorative elements, … In total, more than 230 tons of materials were thus diverted from landfill. Materials originating from the former Générale de Banque can now be seen in several new projects in Belgium: in the municipal library of Sint-Pieters-Woluwe, in the cultural center of Bomel in Namur, in the Grand Central café in Etterbeek, and many more.
