Tables salvaged from the cafeteria of the former headquarters of Banque Brussels Lambert in Etterbeek (Brussels). This cafeteria was designed by Christophe Gevers between 1975 and 1976. It is one of the major commissions that the designer worked on in the 1970s, after the interior design of 'Passage 44' in Brussels and just before his work for the Générale de Banque.
Known as the 'Cours Saint-Michel', the building is a modernist complex designed by architects Jacques Wybauw and Jacques Cuisinier. It is located in the middle of a residential area on the site of the former Etterbeek railway station. The interior of the building has been extensively renovated over the last few decades, including the cafeteria designed by Christophe Gevers.
The tables remained in use, but were visibly restored and adapted. Some components of the tables appear to have been replaced by new ones (for example, the white table top and the central beam).
The rest of the cafeteria's interior, including its unusual ceilings, is unfortunately long gone. The Cours Saint-Michel was acquired by the American Embassy in 2022.
