Created by designer Michele de Lucchi and head of Artemide's technical department Giancarlo Fassina in 1986, the Tolomeo became an icon of Italian modern design. The steel spring that stabilized the lamp and direct the light in the direction you wanted, are replaced by steel cables and couplings that maintain the lamp in tension. The design of Tolomeo won the Compasso d'Oro in 1989.
